night sits at the piano,
winter confuses things as
Indira,
in strawberry hat would insist:
the lame tiger comes down from
the mountain and drinks at the
scented pool and the wild geese
grin and rise up,
like spidery
flames
. . .
she sits
in ivory and porcelain,
the line tugged tight
between her shoulder
and the pool
Indira
bedecked
and dazzling in tinfoil
prances round the flagpole
at the first petal of snow:
to fall
insisting innocence
is the nature of things
. . .
winter,
mid-way between the white and black
confuses things. they came up from
the valley and their arrows
crossed the water lilies
at night
the pool was red
the night was black
winter was incongruous
