My son cuts his wart off with a razor
15, I cut things off then too
so I can’t say more than
You should have seen a doctor
he could freeze it off
there wouldn’t be this mess...
I didn’t know he had a wart
but I pretend I’d been listening
when he said so six months or more ago.
He drinks too, now
he’s inherited my silver flask
the one I got gratis with that whiskey -
and he gets the whiskey
we make him cop it straight
watch him wince, hope he learns
but understand he won’t
just like his Dad refused
like everyone turns down the offer
to understand what works
what’s painless and what’s not
the way to make things bleed
the way to make them not.
