My brother, on the far side of the weir,
is veiled with spray in this October light
while Salmon leaping through the pulse of air
defy the swirling wall; hurl a furled fear
of - drowned home-ground, against the river’s - height.
My brother, on the far side of the weir
has gone beyond our call. Could he still hear
Usk’s tall crescendo; would he, still, delight
in Salmon - leaping: through the pulse of air,
has his heart turned aside? Is he - elsewhere
while homing fish arc past, in glistening flight?
My brother on the far side of the weir,
does he glimpse only brown? As colour - silvers, here,
has his heart - lost rhythm: tuning with the plight
of Salmon leaping through the pulse of air?
Across hurt years, these currents shift and wear
as soon the shining shadows burn to white:
my brother - on the far side of the weir -
the Salmon - leaping - through the pulse of air -
