'You never come near suspecting it in the North' - Vincent Van Gogh
This issue has - besides the usual brilliant poetry, fiction, graphics and so on - some articles on Ash (and Ashbery). Articles are now a regular feature. North 9 will have Stanley Cook on William Carlos Williams, and in 10 with any luck the featured poet will be Charles Tomlinson. Heady stuff, you’ll agree. Our reviews of magazines will continue in the next issue and thereafter as long as new magazines come in.
You will notice our latest stroke of genius, the poetry Agony Column. Send in your heartfelt distress to our resident consultant. No poetry ailment can be too small or too embarrassing for our problem page.
The North has had a flurry of new subscribers and resubscriptions. (Yippee!) Which is just as it should be. How about - it’s just a thought - popping down your local library and getting them to subscribe too! We keep writing to libraries and they keep not answering. A direct hit from a poetry aficionado (‘What? This library doesn’t stock the best poetry magazine in the country? I will leave the district immediately!’) should do the trick.
