Charles Wright is one of the leading American poets of his generation. Born in Tennessee in 1935, he was educated at the Universities of Iowa and Rome. From 1957 to 1961 he worked for the Army Intelligence Service, stationed in Verona. Since 1983, he has been a Professor of English at the University of Virginia. Recent poetry collections include Chickamauga (1995), Black Zodiac (1997) and Appalachia (1998). Last year he won the Pulitzer Prize. In the U.K. his Zone Journals is available from Stride.
