Windows
Every room must have a window
or else it keeps a prisoner
in the confines of its walls
and in my chosen isolation
I have a choice of rooms
and windows opening
on the compass of the world
I have an autumn window
filled with showers of sun
and needlelight of rainy pines
sleek sighing in the wind
A morning window like a bird
scrying the crystalled air
and dipping to the singing
ice of crags and waterfalls
A sunset window of mountains
smoke, mists and spires
rooftops, shadows and stallions
pacing in the darkening fields
A window rapt with waving grass
and sounds of hidden rivers
moving beneath conspiracies
of close knit woods and reeds
And there is a skylight too
full of auguries of stars
and passing moon maned clouds
for if I wake and cannot sleep
and feel the earth beneath me
moving too fast or too slow
for me to draw the draught
of measured peacefulness
from the reservoirs of night.
