The Worcester Wall
Almost, we passed it by unnoticed,
Close by the cathedral:
Stone plaques set in the old wall.
Dates rang bells – notable red alerts.
In a flash, history flooded back.
Again, this year,
Pictures of wet misery;
Bench marks of river stench.
Our pleasant Sunday stroll
Hardly matched up to these levels.
But by Easter, two weeks later,
We had seen fresh marks in the stones.
