Pastoral
Mother’s not whistling, she’s blowing.
She’s at the foot of the garden, blowing strong.
Heading towards the house
she’s buzzed by a couple of Blue Tits.
Now mother’s in the house.
She’s blowing her way around the kitchen,
the provenance of the succulent pigeon.
Mother’s making a soup of goodness, deep and hot.
She steps over dogs and cats
some stuffed, some unexpectedly winsome
and she blows her way into the bedroom.
She lies on her back and blows,
the ceiling hovers tantalisingly above the house.
Like a balloon the world’s growing.
