holding life in broken waters

you split and quicken
quilt and misalign me
signal yourself in
the opaque language
of pain

swim
the beating silence of your home
against the bone

suspended for seven
days waiting to seep
we watch your stain wash
the whitening test
of three lives

tonight I feel you
rustling fluids and
moving the intimate
boundaries of me
you understand doubleness:
for you breathing
is drowning

hostess enclosure
sweet parasite

the sky gulls softly
a lullaby over
a swollen woman
spreading her red self:
skull of a wrinkled sun

struggles with scarlet:
yet she is a little in
love with her own ruin.
