The Edwardian Post-Box
The post-box on the wall
of Platform One
waits for the letter
he will not send.
The carriage doors are closed
the whistle blows
the train pulls out
and he unfolds his newspaper.
“Any letter containing coin sent as an
ordinary letter will be charged extra
to the receiver.”
If he had sent the coin of his love
she would gladly have paid the extra.
