Through Adversity
The rising sun spreads a bright golden glow
Around the frosted ground at early dawn
And leafless trees put on a magical show,
Parading their stark-red beauty upon the morn,
Then a gallant robin descends upon the scene,
His melodious sounds filling the still air,
From his twittering notes, one can soon glean
That all is well – and gratitude is there,
He will survive – yes, he can thrive!
His warm feathers cocooned a shivering frame
All thro' the coldest night he battled alone,
Amongst the frozen leaves of his hedge-domain
Hanging on – what little bird-thoughts had flown
From his tiny stiffened frame, as to life he clung?
Yet his bold spirit was tenacious and strong,
Sufficing thro' a hard freezing night, gladly he sung
His praises to the glowing sun, a joyful song
To warm his frame – Redbreast by name!
And that little chap with his inflamed breast,
Brought a message of hope to all who would hear,
That all may be well, if we just try our best
To lighten the load, bring comfort and cheer
For those of our friends deeply saddened and low,
Who find it too hard, sorrows to rise above –
Yet beauty surrounds us – that bright golden glow
And sweet trilling birdsong sending notes of love
To lighten the soul, its main role.
And the sun his warmth had sent that morn –
As the robin sat on the dew-soaked lawn –
Seeking crumbs of cheer and so little to fear!
