Meantime - To My Siamese Cat
Frost falls with evening soon
quieter than snow on winters gone;
on frozen pond,
orange pippin apple bare,
the end of a never-had-it-so-good
bounty year.
Neighbours I knew once sing carols again.
Jaundiced street lamps flicker.
In their glow
voices still untroubled
by scars to come
feed on Luniks, Elvis, Bardot . . .
And for some who cannot stop
new homes soon
where once the enemy throve.
We're the front line now.
Siamese Shiela. Time is over the top
and coming for us
and this time there's no escape. Mean
time . . . look, Shiela, look, way up high
in the sunset sky
silt clouds hang like bronze sugar spilt
and frost falls with evening soon.
