and some Bukowski and Bill Burroughs
a record shop that has a back catalogue
of survived songs
that plays something
from its best of stock
not a noise that needs at least one more note
to make a tune
and how about a café with a spot of grease?
somewhere a bit posher as well
a chromium plated wine bar
slick enough to attract the classy chicks
and a pub with sawdust and real ale
and a clientele to match
Why not put a 'Be Noisy' sign
in The Library
and cool staff in the Art Gallery
a few pictures by real artists
who paint with both skill and a brain
and knowledgeable assistants in the shops
people interested in their jobs
shops for blokes
junk shops – a bit of this and that
colour to brighten up the place
paints the town red (and blue and yellow)
gold and shocking pink if you like
how about some street furniture
lots of bronze and wrought iron
a mess of architecture
not just cloned concrete-boxes
mix a bit of seediness with shine
throw conformity out of the fifth floor
alternate open space with alleyways
safety with a little danger
show the wild side
mix a bit of life with the commercialism
make love in the streets
and keep taking the money…
