(It takes getting used to,
this whiteness
so intense
it’s almost evil.)

Suzuki’s haiku
of the conjunction
of snow, mist and moonlight.
The sensibility
of old Japan.
Into the thaw
black smudges trudge on.
Stems deliquesce.
We are all equal
under the skin
and under
ambiguous nature.
