Chestnut Condolences
Lined up on my windowsill
On an invisible string
Crooked irregular pearls – barocco.
Some red herring curving through my life.
A winding cryptogram;
undecipherable by me anyhow.
Chestnuts care not for their obscure symbolism.
Their world, in semiotic division
into chestnut and non-chestnut, lies dormant.
Turning to these semi-conscious for nothing
More than company. To dilute my own présence
Pesante. They are but form devoid of meaning.
Inversed nipples from which to suck the life.
