About Memory... I think that sometimes it’s OK to recall events and places and so on when writing haiku. After all, this is what some forms of meditation (and contemplation) are all about. I love the sudden joy of the ‘moment’ when (I think) a haiku begins to form. This might be a direct response to the present situation, but it might also be a way of looking at memories.

Eric Speight referred to the use of memory in haiku (BS 12/2) as have others. Growing older (and hopefully wiser) is to draw on the experience of life. Old memories can reveal new (and fresh) haiku. Furthermore, found poems are just that, and they may be found in material written years ago.
