Summer Holiday. (La Palmyre)
We could walk to the water.
See the sandcastle by the tide line
covered in shells.
Watch the ships moving beyond the dunes
beyond the hidden ocean.
Only once have we seen
the incoming tide claiming the sands,
burying tracks and footsteps;
seaweed swishing in the shallows
like newly washed hair.
watch the light as the sunset fades.
Wait for the lighthouse to start
its warning.
We could go now...........
But we remain here,
eating cherries, feeling the day leave us
as the night arrives;
remembering the warmth of a summer afternoon.
