I kept walking
I kept walking though I did see her
and I did think she looked familiar.
I thought she was your wife
but I couldn’t remember her name.
Ten years of history floated by.
She had a child on her shoulders
and another one by the hand.
And then, behind her, I saw you.
Your name I remembered
just as I could recall so much else.
And we met again for the first time
to relive other times like those nights
we had played at being good friends.
Now, you’re working up North somewhere
or so I’ve heard from a mutual friend.
Have you brought the family down
for a weekend adventure in the big city?
I should have asked but I kept walking
and you didn’t see me -
you were looking the other way.
