Magma has just been awarded a substantial grant by the London Arts Board – one of the two highest for publishing in 2002-3. We are both delighted and grateful at this recognition of Magma’s distinctive place in the poetry scene and of its organisational strength.
We will be using the grant in all three areas of our activity – magazine, web site and live readings – to push ahead with our policy of bringing both new and established poets to the widest possible audiences.
For the magazine, we will be commissioning more quality work and so attracting more readers, and will be introducing a new feature, Making Waves, to include work by poets from groups who we think are underrepresented. We will also be taking on a project worker to help develop our sales.
For the readings, we will likewise be able to commission more poets to read, and to take our readings to new locations.
As for our web site (www.champignon.net/Magma), we will changing it to a fully interactive one by adding a number of new features which will bring our readers closer to us.
Look out for more detailed news about these developments. Any comments or suggestions will be very welcome.
