Lot thirty-five includes the album, frames
saved from the bin by bindings of green hide
around the garden smiles, arrested games,
and format tables. Faces trapped inside
have ceased to want release. A casual glance
reveals a gallery of no romance.
Useless to grope below, or hope to find
an unboxed video of memories,
that follows gated fields, and paths that wind
to breathless halts among the tactful trees,
or tiptoes down soft corridors to keep
a muffled rendezvous this side of sleep.
When everything is waste, or gone to sale,
or lost, or faded into monochrome,
dim recollections of our springtime fail
to save the images of heart and home.
The leaf is off the branch, and gutters fill;
remember me, my darling, if you will.
