Tom Thumb cigars, nimble fingers.
Chloroform, a death-head moth;
The killing jar, the ritual.
Miles away in the dark woods
the silence of owls. Black rats.
Field mice in snugs. Fireflies.
Butterflies with orange-tips
wrapped by spiders. Lightning
blinding white horses;
screaming naked witches.
Ranting half man, half ram.
A startled blackbird's cry.
The dead burning elm.
The torrential downpour.
