Notes on the First Session
She lays it on the table.
It squats there like the lights
we used to feed my childhood cat,
pink flesh still intact but skinned.
She sits down opposite me,
smiles seductively, showing me
her best profile and chatting
as though it were nothing to do with her
until she gets up again,
walks over to the table,
worries at its flesh
with her sharp painted nails.
If only I could encourage her
to leave the thing alone
it might just grow some sort of skin,
allow itself to breathe.
