THOMAS BLACKBURN, born in Cumberland in 1916, was educated at Bromsgrove and Durham University. He was Gregory Fellow of Poetry at Leeds University 1956-8 and now teaches English in Chelsea. His books of poems include In the Fire and The Next Word. He won the Guinness Poetry Prize in 1960.
GERALD HANLEY is the author of The Consul at Sunset, The Year of the Lion and The Journey Homeward.
CHRISTOPHER HAMPTON, born in London, studied music at the Guildhall School. He has had poems published and broadcast, and is at present working on a play.
JOHN RUSSELL, educated at St Paul’s and Magdalen College, Oxford, is art critic to the Sunday Times. His most recent book, among various studies of painters and musicians, is Paris (Batsford).
BRYAN ROBERTSON, born in London in 1925, is the author of a book on Jackson Pollock. He is Director of the Whitechapel Art Gallery.
DEREK HILL has contributed film criticism to Sight and Sound and Encounter.
GORONWY REES, born in 1909, has been a Fellow of All Soul’s since 1931. His publications include several novels, a translation, with Stephen Spender, of Büchner’s Danton’s Death, and a recent volume of reminiscences, A Bundle of Sensations.
RONALD GASKELL lectures in English at Nottingham University.
