Letters
Today I wrote a letter to green,
the colour I love.
My letter came back unopened,
put me in my place
like the entire refusal of autumn to speak.
I wrote letters to blue,
to red, and all his pale-as-a-pig cousins.
I wrote another letter to green.
Not a single colour answered.
Maybe they’d all moved away to a country
where rainbows are against the law,
painters lie awake all night,
and nothing is known about love.
