Drawn into the Void
Thunderclouds come near the outline
of my street: they are nearer
to my study with the open window.
Stamps float on water in the vase,
the stamps I have steamed
from your postcards.
From wherever you have been
I received them: they are blank
but I recognise your handwriting
and my address on them
although you still do not exist.
Although the pictures do not appear
in the collection of your postcards,
my album is filled with them:
cities, towns, villages
and countryside are reduced
to the size of the only world
I know through your journeys.
In my constant action
your appearance plays slowly
and it is easy to touch nothing -
the guitarist whose hat,
put on the top of your guitar case,
shelters the music of your walk through rain.
