Cosmopolitan in Kos
You sat aside the edge and rested,
cool, in the shade and looking trim
in trendy glasses. To left - café
frappĂ©. Too right you don’t
Want to leave.
How many beauties converge in
the hot, August sun, bronzed and
brown, to feast on chilled fruit
and wine? Then leave, borne on the
lazy wind?
Sometimes on hazy, remembered days
it’s all too frenzied beneath the sun,
beating down on melons served upright
and stuffed. So, go to the old town
to taste
The timeless past which never changes
except for dust. And recall old England
and dine in lordly style at seven, sharp.
Leaving a generous tip, of course, following
the Greek coffee.
Then, a half-baked semi-desert sand
will trace soft imprints of those
you left behind; and, like a distant
whispering murmur, the slender palms sway
in the balmy breeze.
