Reality's Dream
Flip the coin between reality and dream.
I close my eyes and listen intently.
My brain is asleep; my soul wide awake.
I invite my polychrome imagination onto the stage.
Cool the breeze of frangible breath
and faint the smell of warmth.
Amicable - the softly spoken grass.
Taste the speech and feel the words.
Don’t just listen - hear.
Glistening - the sight of my voice.
Begin again with white harmonics and silver sand.
I walk over to where a guitar is singing.
Its tanned, brown skin burnt by the jealous sun.
As it strikes the last chord, I open my eyes.
My mind awakes in a heartbeat.
The coin falls brusquely from my tightly clenched fist.
Reality’s macabre head glares up at me.
The choleric sun cuts at my eyes, blinding me momentarily.
Expectations encircle my head once more.
