Bedroom
This bed is a place for paper.
No heat or life or generation.
The duvet cover leaks dandelions,
sparse drops of yellow.
On the bedside table Miss Havisham’s
prayer book sits still, and her shoe,
and the clock, at ten to Thirty,
tells me Time has moved on.
In the bookcase where Dostoevsky
squats the empty tenancy
of poor vacated Enid,
the wood alone endures.
Coffin.
Watch as I drop
the heavy lid,
watch, watch -
as I turn myself in.
