of my post-Imperial schooling
with the satin textures of a Cardinal
painted by Velasquez and interpreted
by Francis Bacon
who drank in Frenchies
Soho, where I met him with Rob Moore, a
collector of early Jamaican dance music
with a designer’s eye for yellows and
brown angular rooms that never had a
window and a top front tooth that was
loosened and ultimately lost,
courtesy
of a mercenary, called Colonel Callan,
who was later executed in West Africa
for doing atrocities on captive people
that made them resemble what Francis
saw only, but entirely
in his imagination
