Susanna is walking down to the piazza
and I am holding a bucket of sheets.
Stai facendo la biancheria? Come sei bravo!*
I unlock the gate and climb to Marilena’s
whose terrace looks over the roofs of the village.
I drape the white sheets over the railings
and then look casually across the valley
it’s as if someone’s handed me the world..!
* Are you doing the laundry? Aren’t you good!
