Birdman
Cats, or
a pot of asters
or cactuses like ogres -
favourite
subjects, but
better loved are the bright
beautiful
birds, so cool
and elusive, soul-
bewitching
flowers of the king-
dom of animals. Twittering
machines in
yellow on green,
burnt umber and ultramarine.
Like fish, free
from the force of gravity
that pulls bird-planes from the sky
and converts
them into bird-boats.
He loves their good bird hearts
that beat
above the earth apart
from death, that 'giant foot'.
