Planets
Mercury
Like a squirrel out of a redwood
Scampering for cover,
This wee young redhead
Dashes from behind her mother:
Impulsive, then pinkly shy,
Evasive, distant.
Fiery, under her mother's eye,
But suddenly hesitant
To meet the confident and close
Glimmer of Venus's back.
Her cheeks are pocked and coarse.
The sky a romanceless black.
