Footsteps in the snow
after Debussy
The bleached-out landscape merges with the sky
And only the angular blackened stump of a
Tree disrupts this faded world of fitful absence
Where uneven indeterminate frozen footsteps trace
A line towards the horizon receding forever
Away for my cold numbed mind will never sleep
Again in this frozen sphere of transient displaced
Corrosive loss where so slow the snow falls featureless
Silent drifting flakes of white on white because
Once signs were but now are very nearly gone
And all is quiet…interminable…and still.
