In The Rag Picker's Shed

Under the cobweb darkened roof
mountains of empty crates
packaged lies rags
junk paper
and the cubic press with its
planks iron clasped the ancient
creaking clockwork
sets the iron stamp
on the great Leader’s
Collected Works -- toward
a happy future: but always
instead
his successor’s new work appears
and new stuff soon by the next
here in the sightless dark
here finally for use
as secret law to condemn
all the works of today
But for a moment
the cog teeth rose and fell
we stood and saw them
thoughtless and therefore
hopeful
