Buckfast Abbey
He stands, a host at table. Entering,
the room is bathed in sunlight; every hue
laps autumn into Pentecostal singing,
as tongues of ruby flame inflame the few
bowed heads of sunrise. Sitting in the chapel
in reverential sin-stained folding robes,
within a cruciform of fall, like dappled
berries, spread to carpentry, enfolding
all blood and bones of Adam, to crossed keys:
bread on the waters of a chalice host
grail Peter’s cast of nets at Galilee.
Charcoal-breakfast, serving fish at cost.
Reflecting stained light, mirrored in the glass,
The Christ behind/before, as I walk past.
