Summer has come late
Summer has come late this year
and now its here it blazes.
I feel a closeness
to the street, its furniture.
In the evening walking home,
I feel light longing.
Heat makes the world accessible.
Everything is outside. Everything is fine.
My neighbours eat their supper in the garden.
Under the tantalising motion of the sky
she is saying, do you love me
do you really love me
will you love me always
do you love me now?
