Garden Shed
Two well-woven nests - no eggs -
blackbirds or robins at a guess
I lift out from leylandi hedge
store with hoe and lawn-mower
spade and broom, rake and blue
extension lead in garden shed
One cold day before Halloween
before late harvest’s gathered in,
before first frost has iced mown grass
and spider’s web,
then close shed door on outdoor chores
and feathered beds.
