The Rest

As wind strikes
each individual leaf in
some particular way, sunlight speaks
over the margins of
a small vial
held onto the church stone
brick wall
by a small piece of
barbed-wire. A golden bottle,
or not so? The tinge itself
might best be ascribed
most purely
to the light, and not any accounting
over denarli. In this steaming
ointment of expensive
tears, today
and most of the tomorrows
over the sentient silence
to the Mary household. Night-times
billowing off a
gray sheet covering
an old mattress with
stuffing falling out by
hand-fulls
from the bottom
around two
large pieces of black
coal, hardly ever thought of
as a matter for fuelling
in recent years. Meanwhile
out in the sanctuary
a pipe organ has already begun
to play -
as though by surprise -
that processional step to a
more human bed.
