Chapel demolished
A clearing now,
where choirs sang.
A century of shadow
swept away
in half a day of dust,
exposing pitted walls
of gaunt self conscious houses.
Bemused old women
Sit in cluttered parlours,
swathed in bulldozed sunlight
effusing through net curtains
with the resonance of hymns.
