Note: The above poems are reprinted from Pomocná s˘kola Bixley (Torst 1994;but see also other editions) exactly as Blatny´ wrote them, with lines and phrases in Czech translated into English as asterisked notes, their literal translation provided by Matthew Sweney. Otherwise the language of these poems is English (with the occasional line in German, French, etc), reflecting part of Blatny´ ’s practice in this last but one book of his poetry.
