Witching Hour
At night, things change.
The sun pulls up a blue velvet cover,
This back drop is arranged;
Carefully, covering the skies like an ardent lover.
Showering both in a stream of diamonds.
At night, the mist hugs the houses,
Softening the sharp corners with comely curves,
Covering the stalking cat while the mouse rouses.
Swallowing a solitary car, causing it to swerve,
Settling here and there on stray glass blades.
At night, the spiders feast and celebrate.
They hang the tears of their victims,
So lovingly kissed to death, to create
A web so spectacular it brims
With individual moonlight-muted rainbows.
At night, the cold air rushes freshly warmed
From my lungs. Refreshing. The silence unfed
Sways us, hypnotic. This witching hour be warned,
The magic is perfect, perfected.
Hubble bubble. I step back into my world.
This night, my friendly fog has followed me.
Entering the warmth of my house.
And now clings to my glasses, persistent
Like a lost child. I can’t see.
My mist is brushed off, and so must night relent.
A new sunrise burns of f the cover of night
Unravelling the spell with light.
