Angels Upon The Ancient Earth
down a back-lane strewn with pools of puked-up dreams
beneath a twilight that’s like an engine
slowly generating thunder
slowly waiting for its anger
to brainlessly flood love into confusion
there are angels
faces stained by dirty
smoke
their feather-wings wounded
by red-eyed violence
blood
dripping down onto the ancient earth
the old earth churning
as life starts swarming
electrifying dead rock
the ground beneath those angels
as they stand smiling
smiling
smiling
they’re not afraid anymore
they’ll wait for the sunrise
the sun-rays straight
through sparkling air
through every window
even though each one is scarred
by spider-web cracks
fragile bullet-holes and gaps
but it really doesn’t matter
it doesn’t matter at all
they’re gonna be okay
they’re gonna be okay
they’re gonna be ok amen
