Eclipse
We wake to a bird tapping
at its own reflection, except
you’re not here. You’re chasing
an eclipse in Turkey
and the promise of totality
in a clear sky.
Insistent tapping on the door
like a reminder to go outside at noon
and stare at the clipped edge
of sunlight. You will see
night condensed – four minutes
of dusk, dark, dawn. The solitaire.
Janice Fixter writes poetry and non-fiction and has had poems broadcast on local radio, LBC radio and Radio 4. She successfully completed a D Phil. in Creative Writing at Sussex University in 2004. Tall Lighthouse published her pamphlet, Walking the Hawk, in 2005.
