Cat's Eye Flowers
She sits motionless at the corner
unfolding silence to hide her eyes
to illumine the worlds within.
She used to accept anything,
act anything to please,
before inhaling the herb
re-awakening the senses,
before her “No.” held meaning.
On coppery stalks cat’s eye flowers
glow twice as luminate as life,
burnished leaves bright
as the flower-seller’s red-brown hair
beneath her beneficent shawl.
She sits motionless on the corner
unfolding silence to hide her eyes
to illumine the worlds within.
