THE BIRTHDAY BACK PAGE AND A BIT
Perhaps the most important and influential (and certainly the most
handsome!) of my mentors is now sat alongside me as I type this. I
know I wouldn’t be the poet I am, and aspire to be, without his
wisdom, his prompting and, of course, his glorious poetry. Many of
you too have known his guiding hand and gentle (or otherwise!)
encouragement over many years, and feel similarly. It is my happy
task to let you all know that on June 25th it is his birthday, and yes, he
really is 60 - a true testament to the rejuvenating powers of Rioja! I
am unashamedly proud of him and all he stands for and am sure some
of you will want to send your congratulations for the day too. Let the
banners be unfurled Mr G!
A cup of tea and other vintages will be available to anyone passing on
the day between 2 & 5pm. I will, however, need him after that.
