A Silly Comment
The way your girlfriend shook her head
and said "no way..." when I suggested
a silly comment that I'd made
had contributed to your suicide
convinced me that it had. Not helpful,
to say the least, not helpful at all,
my present of a little coffin nail,
that silly comment, and you so full
of reasons to be dead and gone
although I didn't know. Don, this tongue,
I'd bite it out and nail the thing
on high to have that comment back again,
that, or simply to have known
how unendurable your life had grown,
which, Don, it goes without saying,
adds up to exactly the same thing.
