Fog to haze
Fog veils the skyline, infiltrates
Blue darkness, morning chill.
Commuters speed to job, past hill
and lamp-ringed lake. Who knows what waits
Today? - a supervisor snaps
At valid question; friend betrays
A confidence and wins a raise;
Grins, greetings, jokes mask power's traps;
Or smiling face becomes a friend;
An unexpected purchase pays
The rent; revision prompts strong praise,
And foolish feud subsides; day's end
Yields healthy sigh. Fog hides our hearts
As well as skyline, and what waits
Emerges, bursts, and then abates
Before we know quite how it starts.
Behind the skyline, evening haze
Re-rubricates like sanguine dawn;
Commuter feels compelled to yawn.
Magenta darkens into grays,
And lamps emerge around the lake
And prink, warm wonderment awake.
