Looking for love in all the wrong places
the older I get
the less I get out
so when I do
I have an urgency
to make it worthwhile
like the other night
I went to a jazz joint
and met these two black chicks
and brought them back
to my apartment
to read them my poetry
but when I got there
they got stoned on coke
the younger one saying
it made her hot
and the two of them
take their clothes off
and take a bath
and when I walk into the bathroom
they are kissing each other
in the tub
and unlike most guys I know
this no longer turns me on
so I go into the living room
and settle back with a bottle
of brandy
and lose myself
in my jazz collection
and soon they’re in the
living room lying naked
on the floor
but I don’t pay them
much attention
my mind lost in Billie Holiday
the two women seem in love
with each other
rolling about on the floor
touching, caressing each other
then just for the hell of it
I join in
the brandy taking its toll
until we’re all drifting
in and out of reality
listening to jazz
for what seems like eternity
somewhere in the
early hours of morning
one of the women falls asleep
and the other one puts my hand
between her legs
her hard nipples reacting
to my touch
she tells me that
she and her friend are lovers
but that sometimes she likes
to make it with a guy
and am I interested?
and I let my fingers between
her legs do the talking for me
and she asks if I want to fuck her
in that far off kind of drugged voice
and I say yeah, why not
it being almost a year since
I have had sex
eating pussy doesn’t count
And it’s loose and easy
with her already being naked
and me feeling higher than high
and later lying in her arms
I drift off to sleep
and when I wake
the three of us are in bed
and I’m in the middle
and the record player
in the living room
is scratching against the groove
and I’m left wondering
why I’m left with this great
loneliness when any other guy
would be congratulating
himself
