Echoes of an exhibition at the Ikon Gallery
Daylight hailed a heady event,
Exhibition mystic as an orb
Hurled through a screen,
A host of icons hovered.
The taxi taxied on wheels of silk,
I sat wrapped in a word.
Figures on footpaths had an air of innocence
As if newly blessed,
A concrete jungle looked tame.
The nake 'Ikon' jutted like a hand,
The building clad in an autumn colour
Blinked at newcomers.
I, like my totem mouse of Indian lore,
Crept through a chink.
The gallery held a harvest of hatched dreams,
Each owned a breathing space.
A bird table transported from my plot
Had oriental features.
I recited a few lines on its creation,
For a TV camera perched like a crow.
I meandered in a woody maze,
Found a lost note,
Listened to the sap rise, like a song.
An arty clan resonated,
Smiles tumbled into a pool.
I sat at a table as long as a barge,
Words and wine flowed along a channel.
Taut as a fiddler's bow, I supped like a sparrow;
Art drummed soulfully.
I captured my name in eye-catching letters
On paper small as a paper plane.
