Part-timer
He gets here always on time - just -
wearing a smile, not a sack like the rest of us.
We find him reading books in the library
and, worse, writing in them. Seriously,
how can we take him? Those educated vowels
and that stoop; that ever-so-careful
pause holding doors. Doesn’t do playground,
doesn’t stay for meetings, doesn’t know he’s born.
Ask him to show you his file and all you get
is a grin. Try him for lesson plans: he forgets.
Won’t come to the pub and can’t be arsed with lunch.
Says like he totally means it we’re a great bunch
to work with. Is it us or is he taking the piss?
No, nowhere else. You’ve got me all to yourselves.
